Six month course with Maggie Carey and Lisa Johnson

First Block: April 21-23 2015. Second Block: 29-30 June & 1 July 2015

This advanced certificate course is designed for practitioners already somewhat familiar with narrative practice who are looking to reinvigorate skills and build on new innovations in their work with children and young people.

Our endeavour is to facilitate a learning context that is encouraging, rigorous and relevant to a range of diverse settings of working with children and young people. As well as working toward competencies in Narrative Practice we hope to foster supportive connections between practitioners that will contribute to the development of Narrative skills. The course is comprised of:

  • Two teaching blocks of three days each. Video and audio examples will be examined along with opportunities to practice a range of the maps of narrative practice with children and young people in mind. These will include explorations of co-research, developing stories of young people’s know-how and skill, remembering, definitional ceremony, documentation, absent but implicit and responding to trauma. The teaching will examine a diversity of ways in which narrative practices are being engaged with children and young people and will incorporate useful links with findings from neuroscience.

  • Two Supervision conversations, by phone or skype, 1:1 with a facilitator. Over decades of teaching, participants have consistently told us that that these conversations have contributed most to their experience of skill development. We will negotiate the content and format of each conversation to ensure it is an experience that supports each participant’s particular hopes, intentions and concerns in their work.

  • Two written reflections on specific readings and teaching content. Subsequent to each teaching block, written reflections will challenge participants to consider new ways of innovating in their work.

Cost: $1,180.00 per person.
